General Submissions:

We are currently not accepting unsolicited submissions at this time. We'll let you know when we decide to open our mailboxes up again. Until then, here are our normal guidelines for the following genres:

Picture Books
Early Chapter Books
Mid-Grade
YA

Books can be of any sub-genre including but not limited to mystery, fantasy, science fiction, historical, creative non-fiction, spiritual slant, etc. That being said, we encourage you to use your good judgment in mixing genres and sub-genres. For example, not a single person on staff has ever met a six year old that didn't find kissing gross. So, romantic picture books are out. Also, we're not opposed to sex, violence, drugs or rock 'n' roll. We just prefer that they be germane to the story. Unnecessary sex or violence purely for its shock value does not interest us. We want to produce great literature, not sensational muck. And of course, keep age appropriateness in mind. We don't think children have to be hidden from tough aspects and issues facing them in this world, but even we are reluctant to publish an early chapter book dealing with incest.

We know queries are great and all, but we prefer to have the whole manuscript at one time. It's frustrating to only have 15 pages and be dying to know what happens on page 16, or so our editors say. If you do not have a complete manuscript ready, don't send anything until it is done. And when we say done, we mean that a critique group, a writing instructor, your spouse, someone other than the author has already read it. Nothing irks our editors more than misspelled, strangely formatted manuscript.
